The
inaugural Extraordinary General Meeting for the
approval of the Budget scheduled for 29th January 2003
was adjourned for lack
of quorum to 8th February 2003. At the adjourned
meeting, the Budget was approved.
Slow play and the littering of cigarette butts
on the golf courses were some of the matters raised and debated upon in the EGM.
In response, The Committee have decided to prohibit as from 1st March 2003
smoking on the golf courses except on the 1st tee, 10th tee and half-way drinks
houses. I am sure golfing Members who smoke can give their lungs a rest for one
hour before smoking again.
The Golf Sub-Committee are presently
formulating new bye-laws/rules for adoption by The Committee to tackle the
problem of slow play, failure to rake bunkers and other breaches of golf
etiquette. The bye-laws are also to provide that Members found to be in breach
will face various disciplinary actions and the habitual ones may face suspension
of all golfing privileges.
To improve the efficiency and for the
convenience of Members, the Golf Sub-Committee are working out various ways for
Members to book tee times up to 1 week in advance. The bookings can be in
person, through the telephone, fax and e-mail. Members will soon be notified of
these improvements.
On Valentine's Night, the Club organised for
the first time an Italian Dinner alfresco at the Terrace. Members and guests
enjoyed the ambience, the open air, the silhouette of our tall majestic trees
and soft background music. It has been suggested that there should be more of
such social activities to encourage Members and their guests to patronise the
Club in the evenings.
