The Circular
FROM  THE  CIRCULAR  OF  JANUARY  2004  ISSUE

The monsoon that inundated our Club with heavy rain began in October and continued until the middle of December. As a consequence our greens, in particular, the first 9 of both the Old Course and the New Course, suffered badly. Remedial works are continuing to be carried out on all the greens.

The Extraordinary General Meeting held on 11th January was the second such meeting since our Club's Articles of Association were amended.

The Committee gathered useful information and feedback from the several comments, views and proposals from Members during the debate on the Budget which was duly passed. In response to the views of Members, The Committee decided to withdraw the motion to charge Members over 70 years old 50% of the prevailing subscription. Notwithstanding the loss of this additional revenue our Club will continue to identify and implement other measures that will narrow the operating deficit.

Following the several comments and suggestions raised at the Extraordinary General Meeting on the poor condition of our greens, The Committee will be organising a dialogue with Members on the proposed renovation works including the master plan and the individual plans of the greens.

Members with children 'who missed the boat' and were unsuccessful in the balloting in December 2003 will be happy to learn that the General Meeting approved the motion to offer these children of Members the opportunity to apply to be Members by paying an entrance fee of RM40,000 for men and RM20,000 for ladies. With the intake of these Members' children, our capital fund will be further substantially strengthened.

The motion for the re-purchase of the lease from the British High Commission was also approved. With the acquisition, we can now move forward with the development of our valuable properties fronting Jalan Tun Razak which will in time generate regular income and revenue for our Club.

Following the advancement of his career and heavier workload, Mohamad Halim Merican, our Convenor for Junior & Youth Programme, had in early January tendered his resignation. In his place, The Committee has appointed Alex Lim Kee Choon, a sub-committee member in Finance and Administration. On behalf of The Committee, I wish to thank Halim for his valuable services to our Club.

I take this opportunity to wish all Chinese Members "Gong Xi Fa Cai" in the year of the Monkey.
